Rhinoplasty - Nose Surgery

Rhinoplasty is performed to enhance cosmetic appearance or correct breathing problems. Deformity and disfigurement of the nose may be hereditary or may be associated with trauma or congenital birth defects. With surgery, the size of the nose can be reduced, the bridge straightened, the tip better defined, the nostrils narrowed and the ability to breathe improved.

The Procedure

Rhinoplasty is can be performed using either sedation or general anesthesia and may be performed in Dr. Galoob's AAAHC accredited office surgical suite or in another local surgical facility. Most procedures last from one to three hours. Incisions are hidden internally or at the base of the nostrils which is very inconspicuous after healing.

Following Surgery

After the procedure, small tissue-like strips are placed into the nose to absorb any drainage. These delicate strips will remain in place for 24 hours and are removed in the office without discomfort. Bruising and swelling, particularly under the eyes, may last 10 to 14 days. Following the removal of the bandages, the new shape of the nose will be apparent, although subtle swelling, particularly at the base of the nose and at the tip, will gradually fade over the next several months. Final healing and appearance can take as long as a year. Most patients can return to work within a week to 10 days. Patients have minimal discomfort after the procedure, with most patients classifying it as a 1-3 on a scale of 10.
